Carolyn Brannan Wins $1,500 Weaved Copper Art Commission (Donated by Nielco Roofing and Sheet Metal and Dennis N. Duce Copper Artist)

Every Summer the Park City Area Home Builders Association holds the PCAHBA Showcase of Homes. Numbers by Duce in conjunction with Nielco Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc gave away an art piece as a Door prize for the homes built by Thad Peterson of Green Tech and Jared Rakisists of Mountain County Homes.

The winner of the door prize from the 2009 Showcase of Homes was a local Real Estate agent Carolyn Brannan.

I met with her and her husband a few different times to create thier custom wall sculpture.

They sent me a few emails. the first one came from Carolyn with a beautiful Christmas E-Card and said “Dennis, We love our new art piece. It’s amazing how the colors change in the sunlight. Reds showed up this morning and the greens where even more intense. It is a very exiting work of art.”

Eric sent me a few pictures of the piece along with this nice note. “ As you predicted the piece really shows off well during the day when the sunlight strikes it, Thanks again for a remarkable and original work of art.”

One of the things that is so interesting to see is how much each piece changes with changes in light source. I love to watch my pieces change. The pictures of this piece really show how much a change in light and angle change the art.

Idaho Commission Response

I got this great email from Carol yesterday and thought it tells a great story of how please she is with the art I delivered last week.

Hi, Dennis!
I have given myself a few days to get acquainted to the two new metal art sculptures you created for our home. Every time I walk into the living room from the bedroom, I just get amazed seeing the “Big Fish,” when I’m used to seeing a smaller art piece or just a blank wall.  I’m almost startled at times! I feel so fulfilled to see something there that I have been seeking for almost two years and it’s just what I wanted!

The “Fire” piece has been a great addition and well received since it was “unplanned” (get my drift?).

As we spoke before, both pieces complement each other and flow well with all the other art in our home. Roger has shown great appreciation towards both of the pieces as well, which really pleases me!

Thank you, again, Dennis! We will enjoy your art for many years to come!!!

P.S. We have been checking out your website and see the photos of the sculptures in our home! That’s cool!

Idaho Commission

Back on December 3rd I got this surprise email from a client of the Hampton Inn and Suites in Downtown Boise Idaho. The Hampton has purchased three pieces which all hang in the lobby. The Pieces are OpusNineteen, OpusTwentySix and OpusThirtyFour. It was specifically OpusTwentySix that Carol is refering to in her email. This is what she had to say “My husband & I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Boise. As I was relaxing in the lounge area, I looked up and saw a beautiful piece of metal art above the fireplace!  I looked around and saw several other pieces! I immediately went to the front desk and asked if they knew the name of the artist.” The Hampton gave her my contact information and we set up an in home consultation. I have completed two Comisions now for Carol OpusSixtyTwo and OpusSixty. This is OpusSixtyTwo I have set up an apointment to deliver it this Friday. I have not sent her a picture of this piece yet so don’t let her know it is already on my web site! ;)

SMA Member Insider

The Springville Museum of Art quarterly newsletter Member Insider has a quote about the aquiaition of OpusTwentyTwo: Phoenix. You can see the full issue of Member insider at http://www.smofa.org/files/pages/90mmhm99.pdf.

“Dennis N. Duce’s sculpture entitled OpusTwentyTwo: Phoenix (2009, copper strips, 88” high) is a complete change of pace. The sculpture is composed of woven and colored strips of copper sheets. It is a donation from Dr. Antoine and Jean Anderson of St. George, Utah and expands the diversity of work in the Stewart Sculpture Garden.”

OpusTwentyTwo: Phoenix is part of the New Acquisition Show at the SMA (Springville Museum of Art). We had a great opening reception today from 2-4. My piece was accepted into the perminent collection in Oct 2009 as part of the new Sculpture garden. Through the end of the show it will be hanging inside the museum along side a number of great artists. Along with the new acquisition show there are some great displays of art done by such notable artists as Susan Swartz titled “Natural Revelations”, Korry Bird and Glen Turner. Seeing that my first show was last May  at HPH Design as part of the Brolly Stroll 2009 in Sugar House I can’t help but feel incredibly blessed to already be honored to be hanging in the SMA along side these great artists.
