New Christmas Ornaments

I have been working on these for a few days and finally got the time to take pictures of my corm folded copper Christmas Ornaments. I am very please with how these turned out and look forward to making even more. These are all made from reclaimed copper which came off of roofing projects in the Park City, Utah area.  I am going to be selling them for $30 each once I have an Etsy account up and running. For now feel free to contact me directly through my facebook fan page

The Kimball Art Center in Park City Utah show a work by Dennis N. Duce

I know have representation in Park city at the District Gallery and I also have hung a piece for a show at the Kimball Art Center. I guess that is as official as it gets I am truly a Park City Artist. It feels good to have that kind of posative feed back since my copper is almost all reclaimed from park city job sites. New pictures of OpusOneHundredTen, OpusOneHundredEightTeen and OpusOneHundredTwenty

I have updated the pictures for OpusOneHundredTen, OpusOneHundredEightTeen and OpusOneHundredTwenty

OpusOneHundredTen started off as just a form folded wall piece. It was a single piece of copper 120″ long and about 4″ wide. I form folded it and hung it on the wall. Karen the owner of District Gallery thought it needed more filled in spce and so I changed the piece and added a second piece of form folded copper along with a piece of weaved copper made from heat treated copper and a weathered piece of valley metal I got from a re roof project that Nielco roofing did this summer. This piece is a clear example of why I don’t give these pieces a name. I have been told that people can see everything from a bug to a Mexican lady weaving. I don’t give names because I want people to see what ever they can see this alows my investors and clients to continue the creative process after I am done.

OpusOnehundredEightTeen was done for the Park City Area Home builders Association Showcase of Homes. I built it to go together with OpusOneHundredTwenty along two curved walls on either side of a large window. Each piece started out as a piece of scrap copper valley metal 24″ wide. This one was 120″ long and OpusOneHundredTwenty was 40″ wide. They are only about 19″ wide now that they have been fold formed but the length stayed the same. I love how these sculptures look on the curved walls in these pictures but the curve is so slight that they look great on straight walls also.

First picture of almost finished Mission Pawsible Dog

So I have been working HARD all week end to get “Prarie Dog” finished. There are a few touch ups still to do but this is a good first look and what I have done with the “Grass” I made. I will get more pictures up tonight when I am finished and have more to show but I thought I would give you all a sneak peek. This dog was made from reclaimed copper  which I form folded and then heat treated and finished with green patina. It will be shipped to Whitefish Montana for the Mission Pawsible fundraiser. As a copper artist I am glad to be a part of this fundraiser and to be able to give back to the community.

Mission Pawsible dog name changes from “Dog Bath” to “Prairie Dog”

The logistics of getting my Dog to Whitefish with the tree intact was more that I was able to fit in this year so I have been trying to come up with another idea for a few months. I told my wife the other day over lunch that I was having a hard time getting inspiration on this piece. She knows I am really enjoying playing around with Fold Forming and came up with the idea to use fold forming to create “Grass” under his feet. I have worked up two of the f sculptures that will go under his feet and took some pictures of them.

This one was the first one create to go under one of the Legs and is made from a single piece of copper. The working title is Leg One

This was the Second one finished. It is made from pieces of copper that are weaved together at the bottom. The working title is Leg Two for now.

Fold forming becomes a new passion and addition to my ongoing weaved copper interest.

I picked up a great book on a modern metal smith technique developed by Charles Lewton-Brain. He calls it Foldforming. It is so organic that I felt like it would be a great addition to my weaved copper. Over the years I have had one constant reference when people describe my art, “Organic”! When I flipped through Charles’ book I could see that this form of metal work was going to be a welcome addition to everything I am doing. So far I have had the book for just over a week and developed three pieces. I am having a lot of fun and look forward to seeing what comes from mixing this with my on going weaved technique.
