OpusNinetyEight is Delivered

I met with the Andersons to deliver their commission. They loved it! and I have to say it looked fantastic in their home. I really enjoy the sense of gratification I feel when I make a custom piece for a particular home and sense of taste and it works out. I am sure I will be able to post future notice about their feelings and how much they are enjoying the piece in their home. They liked it so much they invited my wife and I over for dinner (with out the 8 kids of course.

OpusNinetyEight is finished!

I worked late into the night last night and then got up early today to make sure I got this done so I can deliver it to M. Anderson and his wife later today. This is a fun piece I hope that they like it! My son (one of 5) said that this is his favorite. I love to hear that from him since at first he did not get my art and is regularly willing to tell me what he doesn’t like about a piece. He is my biggest critic. So far he has only said he liked OpusThirteen, OpusSixtyNine and this one.

Trying to get a commission finished tonight

I am working up the finishing touches on the piece won by M. Anderson at the Pella Expo at Energy Solutions Arena. I am building a piece for the wall behind the dining room table. I had them look through the art on “Art All of It” page on my web site so I could understand what they liked and build to that taste. I received this email from them a few days later.

“Dennis I am glad you came by this afternoon.  I am excited to work with you on our project.  It is hard for me to describe which pieces we like the best and why but I will attempt it.  I love architecture that weaves the building material through the project, one of my favorite architects is Richard Meier.  I have attached one of his beach houses.  I like the way the building structure weaves through the project, both on the interior and exterior.  I love the simplicity and directness of his approach.  We love the white museum quality of the home but both my wife and I love color.  We like color to be strong but to have a more muted earth tone about it.  This is what I love about Opus 11 and 2, these two pieces have similar qualities to Richard Meier work.  These piece weave with a clarity of intent but the weave moves back forth with not a consistent nature, the weave will stay behind in some instance, while still expressing its presence. This is similar to the way in which the structure is hidden away with in a wall and then expressed in the interior space and then beyond in an exterior expression.   I also like the quality of the curvilinear shape that is contained within one broader stoke.

Opus Forty Two – I like the simplicity of the piece.

Opus Eleven – This piece is my favorite.  I like that that it is mono tone and that the tone is more a earth tone.  I also like that it is not simply woven.”

Example given by M. Anderson of the Richard Meier Beach House

Example of Richard Meier Beach house provided by M. Anderson. I love that this picture also includes a Alexander Calder Mobile I love his work as much as M. Anderson loves the architecture.
