After the delivery of OpusOneHundredTwo to the Park City Board of Realtors I got a very nice email from Sharon and she agreed to let me share it here.

Dennis N. Duce with OpusOneHundredTwo

“Dennis,

“Your sculpture is unbelievable.. It is so beautiful and looks great in our lobby… We have had so many comments about your work.. I just read your write up about the piece and you are very articulate and kind…. What you wrote is as beautiful as the piece of art.

“Your generosity towards the Peace House will be felt in many ways….

“Thanks so much!

Trying to get a commission finished tonight

I am working up the finishing touches on the piece won by M. Anderson at the Pella Expo at Energy Solutions Arena. I am building a piece for the wall behind the dining room table. I had them look through the art on “Art All of It” page on my web site so I could understand what they liked and build to that taste. I received this email from them a few days later.

“Dennis I am glad you came by this afternoon.  I am excited to work with you on our project.  It is hard for me to describe which pieces we like the best and why but I will attempt it.  I love architecture that weaves the building material through the project, one of my favorite architects is Richard Meier.  I have attached one of his beach houses.  I like the way the building structure weaves through the project, both on the interior and exterior.  I love the simplicity and directness of his approach.  We love the white museum quality of the home but both my wife and I love color.  We like color to be strong but to have a more muted earth tone about it.  This is what I love about Opus 11 and 2, these two pieces have similar qualities to Richard Meier work.  These piece weave with a clarity of intent but the weave moves back forth with not a consistent nature, the weave will stay behind in some instance, while still expressing its presence. This is similar to the way in which the structure is hidden away with in a wall and then expressed in the interior space and then beyond in an exterior expression.   I also like the quality of the curvilinear shape that is contained within one broader stoke.

Opus Forty Two – I like the simplicity of the piece.

Opus Eleven – This piece is my favorite.  I like that that it is mono tone and that the tone is more a earth tone.  I also like that it is not simply woven.”

Example given by M. Anderson of the Richard Meier Beach House

Example of Richard Meier Beach house provided by M. Anderson. I love that this picture also includes a Alexander Calder Mobile I love his work as much as M. Anderson loves the architecture.

OpusEighteen (Desert Sunset) the story

Click on Image to see more pictures of OpusEighteen (Desert Sunset)

This piece was originally made to go in a high end interior design center in Salt Lake City. We switched it out and moved it up to Eagle Idaho to hang in the Main Galerie Belle Ame location. Melissa asked me to offer it as the door prize for the third Thursday Arte Soire at the Silverstone Plaza gallery in April. I happily agreed but sadly could not make it that night so I did not get to meet the winner of the piece. I reached out to her by email and this is our conversation.
I was sad I could not be there the night of the Third Thursday to meet you. I am so glad to hear you liked OpusEighteen. If you go on my web site www.numbersbyduce.com and look at the art (all of it) page. You will notice some of the pieces have a sub title OpusTwentyTwo (The Phoenix) for example. Those names are ONLY given by the owner of the piece. As the winner of OpusEighteen you (and only you) can give it a sub title. I would love to put it up on the website with your sub title.
I am so glad you won, let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
Warmest regards,
Dennis N Duce
Good Morning Dennis,
I’m very glad to receive your email because I wanted to thank you whole-heartedly for the lovely OpusEighteen. I can hardly believe it’s mine! The way marvelous shimmers of copper, golds, greens, rusts, and crimsons are constantly changing in the changing light. I think it might be called “Desert Sunset.”
By the way, your exhibit at Silverstone is terrific, too.
Thanks again,
H. Wilson
I also got this email by way of Kaycie (one of the art divas)
Hi Dennis,
I know you’ve been in touch with H. Wilson, the woman who won your copper piece at our last Art Soiree. I wasn’t sure if she got back to you to let you know what she renamed the piece, so here is what she sent me:
Hello Kaycie,
Thanks for putting Dennis Duce in touch with me. I enjoyed looking at his website and really appreciate having a chance to thank him for the marvelous OpusEighteen which now graces our home!
He encouraged me to name it myself, so I called it “Desert Sunset.” Part of my thinking involved the copper coloring of your building’s windows in the evening and how the myriad colors in the copper artwork evoke the soft lighting in a desert sunset. I hope Dennis likes the name.
Just so you know what Helen is talking about, on Art Soiree night, I was helping her put some things into her car and there was this lovely sunset that was reflecting on the glass of the Silverstone building. She mentioned how beautiful it was and how she was inspired by the colors. I like “Desert Sun,” it’s a nice name for your piece.
See you soon,
~Kaycie
I love the continued creative process of involving the owners of my pieces in the naming process.

Change of Plans for OpusSeventySix

After I was done with the blog post about OpusSeventySix I wrote to Kaycie from Gallerie Belle Ame and sent her the link to my newest blog post. I wanted the “Art Divas” (their name not mine, though it is very fitting) to see what I can create . I was realy proud of the piece and wanted to see if they liked it and would want a piece like that for their location.

I got this email back from Kaycie at 4:27 pm today .

“Hey Dennis,

“I love, love, love the new piece. And have to admit that I’m jealous that it’s going to another gallery and not to us!! LOL. Congratulations, it’s really cool. I read the blog and really like how you explain the process.

“Drive carefully and we’ll see you Thursday. Can’t wait to see our pieces.

~Kaycie”

I then recieved this email from Melissa a few mins later.

“I would like to see some more sculpture work. Rembrandt’s has requested outdoor sculpture asap. Amber’s work cannot be moved to accommodate.

“Dennis: What do you think? We can place sculpture as a more permanent gallery and then add your wall pieces in June/July.

Cheers, Melissa”

Well what am I suposed to do…As an artist I need my representatives to be exited about my art so I changed plans and will be taking OpusSeventySix up to Boise with me this week.

P.S. Kaycie and Melissa, I hope you can sell my art to others half as well as you sold me on moving this piece to your inventory. Thanks for the great work!

Dennis N. Duce Reclaimed Copper Artist interview on Park City TV

Well I put the word out last week that I was going to be interviewed on PCTV. Here is the Inteview. Let me know what you think!

Carolyn Brannan Wins $1,500 Weaved Copper Art Commission (Donated by Nielco Roofing and Sheet Metal and Dennis N. Duce Copper Artist)

Every Summer the Park City Area Home Builders Association holds the PCAHBA Showcase of Homes. Numbers by Duce in conjunction with Nielco Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc gave away an art piece as a Door prize for the homes built by Thad Peterson of Green Tech and Jared Rakisists of Mountain County Homes.

The winner of the door prize from the 2009 Showcase of Homes was a local Real Estate agent Carolyn Brannan.

I met with her and her husband a few different times to create thier custom wall sculpture.

They sent me a few emails. the first one came from Carolyn with a beautiful Christmas E-Card and said “Dennis, We love our new art piece. It’s amazing how the colors change in the sunlight. Reds showed up this morning and the greens where even more intense. It is a very exiting work of art.”

Eric sent me a few pictures of the piece along with this nice note. “ As you predicted the piece really shows off well during the day when the sunlight strikes it, Thanks again for a remarkable and original work of art.”

One of the things that is so interesting to see is how much each piece changes with changes in light source. I love to watch my pieces change. The pictures of this piece really show how much a change in light and angle change the art.
