Reclaimed Copper Artist Dennis N. Duce on RealGreenWorld

RealGreenWorld is all about going green in a logical way. There are simple things that we can each do to be green. I have been creating green art for a number of years, my material is reclaimed copper which I used to get from the roofing company I worked at, since they are not going to be around much longer it looks like i will be getting my scrap from All Metals Fab in Ogden Utah.
My art has been collected all over the world. My favorite collector is the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah. they have OpusTwentyTwo in the sculpture garden. I have just put two pieces into the Spring Salon and they are being juried right now. (I HOPE I GET IN AGAIN THIS YEAR!)
We did this interview in Dec 2010 in a home built by Greentech Design Build. I love how this piece shows my ability to work with the architecture. this is a curved wall and the piece is curved to match the wall.
This is the rest of the episode taped in the Montage Deer Valley. home of the worlds largest SubDynoMelt system (design and patent by me)
Since I talked about my goal of having the Cake Boss build me a cake that looks like weaved copper art I figured I would put in a link to his web site. I LOVE THAT SHOW!

Made changes for OpusOneHundredThirty
Posted by The Artist on October 14, 2010 · Leave a Comment
My wonderful wife pointed out some areas that would be better if they where heat treated so I figured out a way to heat only one small area after I have weaved the metal strips together. I needed to define the line of the temple so I took my wifes sage advice and colored the stainless to define the temple better.

Opus One Hundred Thirty is ready for the SMA Annual Religious show

This idea came to me over a year ago but with the upcoming Springville Museum of Art Annual Religious Show I thought this was the perfect time to produce this piece and enter it into the juried show. I hope they like it! I feel it is a great piece showing a lot of creativity in the use of my medium and style of choice. I am sure it is the first time anyone has woven sheet metal (copper or stainless steel and especially together) to create a representation of the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. I had a lot of fun creating this piece and even did a little dance when I was far enough along to see that it was in fact going to work out. I had never woven a building before, I have done a few mountains but this was a little harder to get worked out in my mind before hand. I am really happy with how this piece turned out. Oh wait I think I have said that already. LOL

It never hurts to get more people looking at my art. I got a notice today from Google that my interview from PCTV got picked up on Metal Home Decor’s web site. I love how more and more people are picking up on what I am doing.

This piece gets highlighted in the PCTV video. Notice the shadow! This helps show how dimensional this piece is

Opus Eighty Two as part of Spring Salon show at SMA (Springville Museum of Art)
Posted by The Artist on April 25, 2010 · Leave a Comment
My wife and I ran down to the Spring Salon Show at SMA to check out the show and get some pics of OpusEightyTwo. We got there and found that there was a line out the door of people trying to get in. I could not understand how the show could be so popular, I also noticed that everyone was dressed to the nines. I got to the door and quickly realized SMA had closed at 6:00 and well…it was after 6:00. It was someones wedding. UGH! Well what would any self respecting artist who had just driven over an hour do? Crash the party. That’s right we walked right in and crashed the party. Okay in truth we walked around the party and went to the room that had my piece hanging. It was nice cause the room was empty so we got some great pictures. Then we slipped out and went to diner with friends. It was a fun night! Hope you like the pics.
