Reclaimed Copper Artist Dennis N. Duce on RealGreenWorld

RealGreenWorld is all about going green in a logical way. There are simple things that we can each do to be green. I have been creating green art for a number of years, my material is reclaimed copper which I used to get from the roofing company I worked at, since they are not going to be around much longer it looks like i will be getting my scrap from All Metals Fab in Ogden Utah.

My art has been collected all over the world. My favorite collector is the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah. they have OpusTwentyTwo in the sculpture garden. I have just put two pieces into the Spring Salon and they are being juried right now. (I HOPE I GET IN AGAIN THIS YEAR!)

We did this interview in Dec 2010 in a home built by Greentech Design Build. I love how this piece shows my ability to work with the architecture. this is a curved wall and the piece is curved to match the wall.

This is the rest of the episode taped in the Montage Deer Valley. home of the worlds largest SubDynoMelt system (design and patent by me)

Since I talked about my goal of having the Cake Boss build me a cake that looks like weaved copper art I figured I would put in a link to his web site. I LOVE THAT SHOW!

OpusOnehundredTen has been entered into the Spring Salon I hope it gets in!

Fold forming becomes a new passion and addition to my ongoing weaved copper interest.

I picked up a great book on a modern metal smith technique developed by Charles Lewton-Brain. He calls it Foldforming. It is so organic that I felt like it would be a great addition to my weaved copper. Over the years I have had one constant reference when people describe my art, “Organic”! When I flipped through Charles’ book I could see that this form of metal work was going to be a welcome addition to everything I am doing. So far I have had the book for just over a week and developed three pieces. I am having a lot of fun and look forward to seeing what comes from mixing this with my on going weaved technique.

OpusOneHundredTwo Delivered, Accepted and Loved

I delivered the “Featured Art” to Jane Patten and her staff at the Peace House this afternoon and they could not have been more over joyed. It was so fun to see them get involved finding symbolism in the peace. Kara Cody pointed out how it is the male Peacock that has the bright feathers but how fitting it is that in order for us to make real change in domestic violence we need to not only change and help the woman but also the men. Many times domestic violence is considered a woman’s issue but the woman at Peace House understand how much men need help both as the abusers (to become better people) but also as the abused. Though this is not the current direction of Peace House to help men but Kara liked to see the symbol it represents.

For me the material is all reclaimed (Just more garbage) which I take and turn into something beautiful. This is a lot like the work Peace House Does helping women and families that feel like they have no worth to overcome the problems that they find in their life and turn into beautiful members of society. I also like how if you look hard you can see the logo of Peace House in this piece but it is not in your face. The implication here is that there will always be an imprint on the people who come through the doors of Peace House but it will only be there in the back ground. What you will really see is a beautiful woman or child who is now able to grow and blossom thanks to the help of Jane and her team of volunteers.

We found a small strip of red right in the middle of the chest of the part of the logo that represents a woman. It was pointed out that she has a heart and is able to love again. I don’t think there is anything more difficult or important for these victims then to be able to love and trust.

I love Peace House, I love what they do and what they stand for and am very glad to be able to be the featured artist for the 2010 Luxury Home Tour in support of Peace House. I hop I get a chance to do this again.

Metal Home Decor links up my PCTV Interview

It never hurts to get more people looking at my art. I got a notice today from Google that my interview from PCTV got picked up on Metal Home Decor’s web site. I love how more and more people are picking up on what I am doing.

This piece gets highlighted in the PCTV video. Notice the shadow! This helps show how dimensional this piece is

I am on PCTV again!

I had another opportunity to be on PCTV last week. It was a great Birth Day present. This was a great interview with Jen. It is up beat and energetic. I think it turned out great.

You ask for it you get it!

Melissa Brodt (CEO of Galerie Belle Ame) saw my post on Facebook about the new jewelery I am going to unveil as her featured artist May 7th at the Rembrandt’s Gallery in Eagle Idaho. She wanted to know if I could make a Bangle style bracelet. OF COURSE I CAN!

We could call this the Brodt Bracelet since the inspiration came from Mellisa.
