OpusEighteen (Desert Sunset)

OpusEighteen (Desert Sunset)

This piece was originally made to go in a high end interior design center in Salt Lake City. We switched it out and moved it up to Eagle Idaho to hang in the Main Galerie Belle Ame location. Melissa asked me to offer it as the door prize for the third Thursday Arte Soire at the Silverstone Plaza gallery in April. I happily agreed but sadly could not make it that night so I did not get to meet the winner of the piece. I reached out to her by email and this is our conversation.

I was sad I could not be there the night of the Third Thursday to meet you. I am so glad to hear you liked OpusEighteen. If you go on my web site www.numbersbyduce.com and look at the art (all of it) page. You will notice some of the pieces have a sub title OpusTwentyTwo (The Phoenix) for example. Those names are ONLY given by the owner of the piece. As the winner of OpusEighteen you (and only you) can give it a sub title. I would love to put it up on the website with your sub title.

I am so glad you won, let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Warmest regards,
Dennis N Duce

Good Morning Dennis,
I’m very glad to receive your email because I wanted to thank you whole-heartedly for the lovely OpusEighteen. I can hardly believe it’s mine! The way marvelous shimmers of copper, golds, greens, rusts, and crimsons are constantly changing in the changing light.  I think it might be called “Desert Sunset.”
By the way, your exhibit at Silverstone is terrific, too.
Thanks again,
H. Wilson
I also got this email by way of Kaycie (one of the art divas)
Hi Dennis,
I know you’ve been in touch with H. Wilson, the woman who won your copper piece at our last Art Soiree.  I wasn’t sure if she got back to you to let you know what she renamed the piece, so here is what she sent me:
Hello Kaycie,
Thanks for putting Dennis Duce in touch with me.  I enjoyed looking at his website and really appreciate having a chance to thank him for the marvelous OpusEighteen which now graces our home!
He encouraged me to name it myself, so I called it “Desert Sunset.” Part of my thinking involved the copper coloring of your building’s windows in the evening and how the myriad colors in the copper artwork evoke the soft lighting in a desert sunset.  I hope Dennis likes the name.
Just so you know what Helen is talking about, on Art Soiree night, I was helping her put some things into her car and there was this lovely sunset that was reflecting on the glass of the Silverstone building.  She mentioned how beautiful it was and how she was inspired by the colors.  I like “Desert Sun,” it’s a nice name for your piece.
See you soon,
~Kaycie
I love the continued creative process of involving the owners of my pieces in the naming process.
